Box Score McCorra Ford recorded 29 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team to a 75-52 victory over Colorado College on Tuesday night at Reid Arena.
Ford, who made 11 of 25 shots from the floor and six of nine free throws, scored 18 points during the second half when JWU pulled away. The senior guard also registered a game-high five assists and four steals.
After falling behind by 11 points 2:51 into the second half, the Tigers pulled to within 42-39 when sophomore guard
Payton Katich scored with 4:02 remaining in the third quarter.
However, CC went cold during the final 14 minutes and the Wildcats closed out the victory with a 33-13 run.
Colorado College led 27-22 after sophomore guard
Kaylyn Radtke sank a pair of free throws with 1:54 to play in the second quarter.
Johnson & Wales took the lead for good at 32-29 when sophomore guard Dominique Riley nailed a three-pointer as time expired.
The back-and-forth first half featured three lead changes and five ties.
Katich finished with a team-high 12 points for CC, which slipped to 1-5.
Radtke posted career highs with 11 points and 8 rebounds for the Tigers, while sophomore guard
Casey Torbet added 11 points.
Junior guard Allison Butler added 15 points for the Wildcats, who improved to 1-7.
JWU connected on 12 of 23 three-point attempts, while Colorado College went 1-for-9 from behind the arc.
CC travels to Walla Walla, Wash., this week for the 2016 Kim Evanger Raney Classic. The Tigers play Whitworth University on Friday and host Whitman College on Saturday.
