Box Score Sophomore guard
Casey Torbet scored a career-high 17 points, but her efforts were not enough as Colorado College fell to Whitworth University, 65-52, on Friday evening during the first game of the Kim Evanger Raney Classic in Walla Walla, Wash.

Torbet led the Tigers with her career-high 17 points on a 58.3 field-goal percentage on seven baskets in 12 attempts. She also led the team defensively with six rebounds.

CC had its best shooting performance of the season from both the field and long range. The Tigers shot a season-high 43.8 field-goal percentage on 21-of-48 shooting from the floor and also went 4-for-9 from long range for a season-high 44.4 three-point percentage.

Senior guard
Christina Bowman also scored in double figures with 13 points, while shooting 5-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range.

Bowman scored the first basket 10 seconds into the game when she drained a three-pointer to help the Tigers begin the quarter on a 7-2 run. CC closed out the remainder of the first quarter scoring five of the final 13 points to hold a 12-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Sophomore forward
Kate Loy gave the Tigers a 14-10 lead on a jumper with 8:31 remaining in the second quarter, but a three-pointer by the Pirates' Erika Kuehn helped spark a 16-4 run to give Whitworth a 26-18 lead with 1:30 remaining. Torbet hit a jumper with 28 seconds left to enter halftime with CC down 26-20. Â

The Pirates held a 56-38 lead, their largest of the game, with 5:22 remaining in the fourth quarter on a bucket by Kuehn; however, twenty-three seconds later freshman guard
Nia Duplain made a layup to help ignite a 14-6 run. Freshman guard
Jordan Meltzer ended the run on a three-point play after getting fouled on her layup to cut Whitworth's lead to 62-52 with 12 seconds to play.

The Tigers shot 9-of-16 from the floor in the fourth quarter for a game-best 56.3 field-goal percentage. Â

Whitworth (2-4) was aided at the free-throw line making 16 of its 21 attempts, while CC made six of its 11 attempts. The Pirates were led by Maddison Moffat and Kuehn with 17 and 13 points, respectively. Grace Douglas and Callie Harwood also contributed with 10 points apiece.

Colorado College (1-6) returns to action on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT as it takes on the hosts Whitman College in the finale of the Kim Evanger Raney Classic.
