th-ranked Denver Pioneers scored three goals in the third period to defeat Colorado College, 4-1, Thursday night at the Broadmoor World Arena. With the victory, DU improved to 16-8-5 overall and 12-5-2 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, while the Tigers fell to 6-22-1 and 4-14-1 in league play.

CC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when junior
Matt Hansen buried a one-timer on the power play just 3:17 into the contest. Freshmen
Andrew Farny set up Hansen with a perfect pass to the left circle and Hansen beat Tanner Jaillet for his second goal of the season. Freshman
Mason Bergh also collected an assist on the play.

The Pioneers evened things up at 1-1 midway through the first period when Dylan Gambrell took a centering pass from Danton Heinen and flipped a shot over the right shoulder of Tiger goalkeeper
Jacob Nehama.

After a scoreless second period, DU's Trevor Moore scored the game-winner at the 6:54 mark of the third period with a power-play goal. Nehama made a nice save on a shot by Gambrell, but Moore was right in front and sent a backhander into the net.

The Pioneers then scored twice in the final 2:43 for the final margin. Troy Terry made it 3-1 with a nice rush from his own blue line and Heinen sealed the deal with 1:17 left.

Gambrell finished the evening with three points (1g,2a), while Heinen and Moore each had a goal and an assist. Evan Cowley picked up the win in the net for Denver after relieving Jaillet, who felt ill after the first period. Cowley made 21 saves in the final 40 minutes.

Senior
Hunter Fejes and Gambrell each had a game-high six shots and DU held a 33-28 advantage in shots on goal. Nehama finished the game with 29 saves for CC.

The two teams will embark in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Saturday, Feb. 20 when they square off in an outdoor game at Coors Field in Denver. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6:10 p.m.
