Box Score Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored a free-position goal with two seconds remaining in the game to escape Zinda Field with a 12-11 victory over Colorado College on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Corie Hack notched the game winner 29 seconds after she was denied by CC senior goaltender Martha Smith on another freebie at the start of the Athena's final possession.

They game appeared to be headed to overtime when junior midfielder Mary Taussig tied the game at 11-11 with 1:36 to play. Taussig's goal capped a furious rally by the Tigers in the second half after they fell behind 8-3 during the first 30 minutes.

Colorado College scored five unanswered goals to tie the score at 8-8 on the fourth marker of the game off the stick of sophomore attacker Annie DeFrino.

Freshman attacker Carly Keeney gave CMS another lead with 18:03 to play, but CC freshman midfielder Ellie Meyer leveled the score 1:38 later.

The Athena's built a two-goal cushion on tallies by sophomore midfielders Katie Hill and Mikaela Connell, only to see the Tigers battle back with scores by junior midfielder Hannah Lyons and Taussig.

The player of the game for CMS was senior goaltender Kate Anello, who made 11 saves.

Without her efforts, the Athenas would not have been in within striking distance at the end.

Colorado College finished with a 32-20 advantage in total shots, won 14 of 24 draw controls and forced CMS into 25 turnovers.

DeFrino led the Tigers with four goals, while Taussig scored twice and added an assist.

Smith finished with four saves for CC, which slipped to 5-2.

Taussig caused five turnovers and grabbed five ground balls for the Tigers.

Hack led the Athenas with four goals, while Hill added three more.

Colorado College returns home next week for games against Whitman College and Wellesley College on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
