Box Score Colorado College faces an uphill battle in quest for a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title after falling to first-place Schreiner University on Saturday night.
The Mountaineers shot nearly 60 percent from the floor, including a blistering 63 percent in the first half, en route to an 85-70 victory over CC at the SU Event Center.
Schreiner bolted to a 33-15 lead during the first 18 minutes and the Tigers never completely recovered.
Colorado College cut its deficit to nine points after 20 minutes and was within 46-40 after junior guard
Eric Houska sank a pair of free throws a little less than four minutes into the second half. The Mountaineers, however, regained the momentum and extended their lead to 15 points with 5:23 remaining.
The Tigers pulled to within 10 points when junior forward
John Hatch scored two of his game-high 26 points with 2:52 to play, but that was as close as CC would get.
Houska finished with 17 points for Colorado College, which slipped to 7-13 overall and 6-3 in the SCAC.
The Tigers are tied with Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University in second place, two games behind Schreiner which improved to 7-1 in league play.

CooXooEii Black finished with 10 points apiece for CC.
Blake Kelley led the Mountaineers with 19 points, while Wes Miller added 14 points and five assists.
Phillip Kee and Nathan Robbins each added 11 points for SU, which now is 10-9 overall.
Colorado College wraps up its home schedule next week when Centenary College and Austin College visit Reid Arena on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
