Torbet’s 25 Not Enough Against Southwestern

Box Score Casey Torbet poured in a career-high 25 points, but that performance was not enough to get the Colorado College women's basketball team past Southwestern University.

The visiting Pirates shot 50 percent from the floor and controlled the boards while pulling away for an 80-61 victory on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena.

CC trailed just 59-52 when Evan Underbrink took a feed from Torbet and scored with 7:45 to play in the fourth quarter, however the Tigers expended their energy while playing from behind and were outscored 21-9 during the remaining time.

Torbet made eight of 12 shots from the floor and seven of nine free-throw attempts. The sophomore point guard also tied her career high with six assists.

Senior guard Christina Bowman connected on four of eight shots from behind the arc and finished with 12 points.

In her second game back after returning from an injury, senior forward Korbyn Ukasick added 10 points and four rebounds.

Southwestern was red-hot early in the game, racing to an early 13-2 lead. The Tigers answered with a 13-0 run and took their first lead when Bowman connected from long range with 4:11 left in the first quarter.

The Pirates led 45-35 after 20 minutes and built a 16-point lead when Tori Carraway hit a short jumper two minutes into the third quarter.

Colorado College pulled to within four points when Bowman buried another trey with 3:07 remaining in the third, but Southwestern closed out the period with an 8-2 run to regain a double-digit lead.

Madison Edwards led the Pirates with 19 points.

Olivia Podaras scored 17 points, while Carraway finished with 16.

The Pirates finished with a 40-26 advantage on the boards and made 24 of 32 free throws.

CC went 11-for-17 from the charity stripe, but stayed in the game by making eight of 22 three-point attempts

Southwestern improved to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Tigers slipped to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Colorado College plays its first SCAC road games of the season next week when the Tigers visit Centenary College and Austin College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
