Raizner’s Goal Propels CC Past Dallas

Box Score Sophomore defender Josh Raizner struck for his first career goal early in the second half to help Colorado College defeat the University of Dallas in the final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the regular season.

Raizner scored on the rebound of a blocked shot off the boot of senior midfielder Joel Frykholm to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead early in the 62nd minute.

Senior forward Sam Markin snapped the scoreless tie nearly 13 minutes into the second half when he settled a header pass from senior midfielder Tim Huettel and beat UD freshman goalkeeper Sean Carlin with a blast from the center of the box.

The Crusaders sliced their deficit in half in the 70th minute when Nate Riddle scored off of a through ball from Tomas DePetris, but that was the only shot that would get through CC's defense.

Colorado College senior goalkeeper Theo Hooker made five of his six saves during the second half.

"Today's win was our best team performance since the opening-night win at Luther College," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We saw an intensity and competitiveness from the group that had been missing at times this season."

The Tigers, who improved to 11-4-3 overall and 9-2-3 in the SCAC, finished with a 17-14 edge in total shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Carlin made three saves for UD and got some timely help from his defenders, who kept a pair of shots from going in the

The Crusaders slipped to 12-3-2 overall and 10-2-2 in conference play.

The Tigers won the season series against Dallas with a 1-0-1 record, but the Crusaders finished two points ahead of CC in the battle for second place in the conference standings.

Colorado College will face either Southwestern University or Schreiner University in the first quarterfinal in the conference tournament on Friday, Nov. 3. In order to win the SCAC championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament, the Tigers will have to win three games in three days.

CC will tune up for the conference tournament on Sunday at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

"We hope this win can give us some momentum going into Sunday's game against a very good and rested UMHB team," Palguta said.
