The Colorado College women's tennis team put up a good fight Saturday but dropped a 9-0 decision to 25^th-ranked Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.
 
The Wildcats, ranked eighth in the West Region, swept all three doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The best match of the three came at the No. 3 position as Courtney Mostul and McKenna Stephenson defeated senior Maddie Cahill-Sanidas and sophomore Annie Zlevor, 8-5.
 
Cahill-Sanidas and Zlevor each had a tight match in singles as well, with both playing three sets. Zlevor took the first set, 6-2, over Michelle Ly at the No. 4 spot, but Ly won the second 6-2, then took the super-tiebreak, 10-8.
 
That third set had nothing on the No. 5 match, however. Cahill-Sanidas rallied from a set down (6-2) to Jesse Vezo and win the second set, 6-3. The two players then played a thrilling super-tiebreak, with Vezo hanging on for a 24-22 decision.
 
The Wildcats won the other four singles matches in straight sets, including a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory by Marisa Doveri over Tiger freshman Jenna McDonald at the top spot.
 
"We put forth a strong effort against a nationally-ranked team with some tight matches in singles," head coach Anthony Weber said. "Maddie lost 24-22 in third set breaker in some of the best tennis of the day.  Even with the match clinched, there was absolutely no let down from Maddie, she fought tooth and nail."
 
The Tigers, 3-6 and ranked 13^th in the West Region, continue their 2017 spring break trip on Sunday, March 19 against Pacific University Forest Grove, Ore.
