Whitworth Rallies to Edge Tigers

Box Score Whitworth University scored 12 consecutive points midway through the fourth quarter and pulled away for a 60-52 victory over Colorado College on Saturday afternoon at the 2018 Kim Evanger Raney Classic at Whitman College.

Colorado College led 47-40 after junior guard Nia Duplain knocked down a jumper 3:20 into the fourth quarter, but the Pirates answered with the next 12 points to open a 52-47 lead with 4:35 remaining.

The Tigers pulled leveled the score at 52-52 when senior guard Casey Torbet scored on consecutive possessions, but her second basket proved to be CC's last of the game.

Colorado College missed its final four field-goal attempts and Whitworth sealed the victory by sinking four of six free throws during the final 35 seconds.

After trailing 31-22 a little more than a minute into the second half, sophomore guard Jade Odom scored eight points to ignite an 18-4 run that gave the Tigers five point lead after 30 minutes.

McKenzee Gertz recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

With a pair of three-pointers, CC's sophomore winger pulled even with Korbyn Ukasick (2013-17) for seventh place on Colorado College's career list with 87.

Odom led the Tigers with 13 points, reaching double-digits for the fifth time this season.

Junior guard Jordan Meltzer finished with a season-high 11 points for CC, which slipped to 4-5.

Torbet finished with eight points, eight rebounds and three assists. She now has 247 career assists, which ties her for fourth place on the program's career list with Annie Hull (1989-92).

Madison Moffat led Whitworth with 16 points and seven rebounds

Camy Aguinaldo finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Talia Brandner added 13 points for the Pirates, who improved to 6-2

Colorado College returns to the road next week for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games at Texas Lutheran University and Southwestern University on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
