Box Score Colorado College utilized a dominating third quarter and some timely three-point shooting down the stretch to defeat the University of Dallas, 63-57, in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.
With the come-from-behind victory, the Tigers improved to 9-16 overall and 6-8 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. CC clinched the fourth seed in next week's SCAC tournament and will play host to fifth-seed Centenary College on Friday.
Casey Torbet led the Tigers with a game-high 20 points, including a three-pointer with 2:45 remaining that extended Colorado College's lead to seven points. The junior point guard also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
With 1:18 still on the clock, sophomore winger
McKenzee Gertz hit another three-pointer that gave Colorado College a commanding 61-53 advantage. Gertz finished with nine points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Crusaders led 37-28 when sophomore guard Celsi Caraway hot a three-pointer 2:23 into the third quarter, but they were unable to hold off the hard-charging Tigers.
Freshman guard
Jade Odom scored nine of her 14 points during a span of 2:12 late in the third quarter to cap a 21-6 run that saw CC turn a nine-point deficit into a 49-43 lead.
A layup by freshman forward Vanessa Diaz cut UD's deficit to four points early in the fourth quarter, but Gertz knocked down a short jumper and then Torbet scored off a deflection of her own pass to give Colorado College an eight-point cushion for the first time.
Sophomore guard
Nia Duplain produced 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Tigers, who a fraction better than 55 percent from the floor during the final 20 minutes.
CC also finished with a 39-33 edge in rebounds.
Senior forward Michelle DeCoud led the Crusaders with 19 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had a pair of steals.
DeCoud scored seven points during the first quarter when Dallas built an 18-9 lead after 10 minutes.
Caraway went 3-for-9 from behind the arc and finished with 13 points for UD, which never trailed during the first half.
Senior forward Helen Onyenso scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Crusaders.
Dallas finished the season with a 9-16 overall record and a 3-11 conference record.
