Tigers Drop 67-55 Decision at Centenary

Box Score Colorado College saw its four-game road stretch end on a disappointing note with a 67-55 setback at Centenary College on Saturday night.

Playing like they did for most of Friday's matchup against first-place Austin College, the Tigers came out strong and opened a nine-point lead on Jade Odom's three-pointer with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter.

However, there was a dramatic shift in the momentum in the second quarter and the Ladies stormed back on the strength of a 16-4 surge and led 33-30 after 20 minutes.

A layup by Jordan Meltzer 58 seconds into the third quarter pulled CC to within four points, but an 11-0 run put Centenary in control.

The Ladies opened a 49-34 lead when Bre Frierson scored on a layup midway through the quarter, however the Tigers scored 14 of the next 16 points and pulled to within three when Casey Torbet scored a little more than a minute into the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Colorado College lost its shooting touch for more than three minutes and Centenary took advantage of the drought by scoring 14 consecutive points to extend its lead to 65-48 with 5:19 remaining in the game.

Meltzer finished with a team-high 13 points for CC, which dropped to 7-15 overall and 4-7 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Tigers, who play their final three regular-season games at home, are currently fifth in the SCAC standings.

Nia Duplain scored a season high 12 points, while Torbet reached double digits with 10.

McKenzee Gertz, who scored all nine of her points during the second half, led Colorado College with nine rebounds.

CC sank 12 of 15 free throws, but made only three of 15 three-point attempts.

Savannah Doty connected on four of eight shots from behind the arc and led the Ladies with 14 points.

As a team, Centenary went 7-for-18 from long range, and the additional 12 points proved to be the deciding margin.

Jasmine Morris scored 13 points for the Ladies and tied Doty with a game-high five assists.

Frierson also reached double figures with 11 points, while Kayla King grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Colorado College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9, against Schreiner University at Reid Arena.
