Schwartz, McElhinney to Play for Team Canada

Two former Colorado College hockey players, Jaden Schwartz and Curtis McElhinney, will represent Team Canada at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Denmark.

Schwartz recently completed his sixth full season with the St. Louis Blues. He recorded 59 points (24g,35a) in 62 games this year and has 271 points (113g,158a) in 380 career games. In his final season at CC in 2011-12, Schwartz paced the team with 41 points (15g,26a) and was a first-team AHCA/CCM West America selection.

The Wilcox, Saskatchewan, product is the last Tiger to win back-to-back team MVP awards and is no stranger to international competition. He represented Canada in the 2011 and '12 IIHF Junior World Championships, captaining the 2012 squad to a bronze medal.

McElhinney, meanwhile, has been a goaltender for six different NHL teams, most recently the Toronto Maple Leafs. He posted an 11-5 record in 18 games this season, helping the Leafs advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

McElhinney, from London, Ontario, compiled a 62–15–8 record his four seasons at CC, earned All-WCHA First-Team selections in 2003 and '05, and was an NCAA First-Team All-American in 2005. He is No. 2 on the school's all-time list with 62 victories.

This year marks the first time that two former Tigers will participate in the same World Championships since Richard Bachman and Joey Crabb represented Team USA in 2012.

Team Canada opens the tournament on Friday, May 4, against Team USA in Herning at 8:15 a.m. (MT). Every Team Canada game will be televised by TSN, while the NHL Network will show every Team USA contest.
