Mullins, Freeburg Lead Tigers to SCAC Final

Georgia Mullins and Allie Freeburg combined for 29 kills to lead the Colorado College volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-15, 15-25, 25-23 victory over Southwestern University and a berth in Sunday's championship match of the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

CC faces Trinity University, which defeated Austin College in four sets during Saturday's first semifinal.

Mullins led the Tigers with 15 kills on 19 attacks with just one error. The sophomore middle hitter finished with a blistering .737 hitting percentage.
Freeburg finished with 14 kills while hitting .286.

Lizzy Counts dished out 36 assists and became the second setter in program history to record 4,000 or more in her career. The milestone occurred on a Margo Spaethling kills that gave Colorado College a 21-12 lead in the second set.

The Tigers fired on all cylinders during the first two sets and appeared to be coasting into a showdown with Trinity University.

Lauren Crabtree put the Pirates on her back and led them back into the match by winning the third set. The sophomore setter-opposite hitter finished with 17 assists, eight kills and three blocked shots.

The momentum carried into the fourth set, but with Southwestern leading 18-14, Emma Hewlin came off the bench to put down a pair of kills to cap a 6-2 surge that tied the set at 20-20.

A kill from Mullins gave the Tigers a 22-20 lead and, after the teams traded side-outs, she put the match away with kills for CC's final two points.
