CC Drops 15-9 Decision at Washington College

A slow start and a hot goaltender proved too much to overcome for the Colorado College men's lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon.

Chris Del Rosario turned aside 22 shots and Casey Grieves factored in six goals to lead Washington College to a 15-9 victory over the Tigers.

After CC trimmed its deficit to 7-4 on markers from Parker Woo and Coby Petau, Grieves scored with five seconds remaining in the first half and then struck twice in the third quarter to give the Shoremen a 10-4 cushion.

Elliott Nelson got one back for Colorado College, but Cody Pascale scored twice during a 4-0 run which gave WC its largest lead at 14-5. Pascale finished with three goals and a pair of assists.

Goals by John Sutro and Petau trimmed to CC's deficit to 14-7, and after the Shoremen answered with their final score, the Tigers closed out the game with goals by Carter Richardson and Brant Billingsley in a span of nine seconds late in the fourth quarter.     

Petau led the Tigers with three goals and took over the team lead with 24.

Nelson scored once and set up another score, while Tyler Borko recorded a pair of assists.

Drake Gillis caused three turnovers for CC and now shares the team lead with Jack Ammons at 19.

Colorado College won 16 of 27 faceoffs and finished with a 43-42 edge in ground balls.

Jacob Rogers went 16-for-26 at the dot and picked up a team-best six ground balls. John Lawrence and Borko grabbed five ground balls apiece.

Both teams launched 51 shots.

Andrew Harwood finished with 13 saves for the Tigers, his fifth game this season with double-digit stops.

Kevin Wilson recorded three caused turnovers and three ground balls for Washington College, which improved to 5-6.

Colorado College, which slipped to 7-5, is idle until Friday, April 19, when the Tigers begin a two-game East Coast road trip at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass.
