Black Nets 31 as CC Falls at Southwestern

Box Score CooXooEii Black poured in a season-high 31 points, but Colorado College saw its opportunity to earn a berth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship evaporate with a 74-70 loss at Southwestern University on Friday night.

CC slipped to 8-15 overall and 6-11 in the SCAC, with six of its conference losses occurring by four points or less and one other ending in overtime. The Pirates improved to 7-10 and hold the tie-breaker over the Tigers by taking both ends of the season series by a combined five points.

Black, who connected on 12 of 17 shots from the floor, became the fifth player in program history and just the ninth in the SCAC to eclipse the 1,600-point mark. His current total of 496 ranks 17th on the program's single-season list.

Aaron Acosta finished with 15 points and four rebounds, while Jack McRoskey produced 13 points, four assists and a pair of rebounds.

The Tigers trailed 58-48 after Southwestern's Kyle Howard scored midway through the second half, but Colorado College trimmed its deficit to four points when Black sank a pair of free throws with 1:59 remaining.

Following a layup by Brandon Alexander, Acosta hit three free throws to pull the Tigers to within 71-68. Each team sank a pair of free throws, and Alexander made it a two-possession game by making one of two with five seconds to go.

Alexander led the Pirates with 24 points.  

CC led 37-28 with 4:15 to play before halftime, but Southwestern scored the final seven points to close to within two after 20 minutes.

Nabeel Elabdeia finished with six rebounds and five points. 
Scott Cunningham scored five points and dished out two assists.

Trenton Garrett produced a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Howard finished with seven points.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College closes out the season on Saturday against Texas Lutheran University at 4 p.m. CT in Seguin, Texas.
