McKenzee Gertz recorded her 12th double-double of the season with game-highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds, but Colorado College was unable to score during the final 3:51 and dropped a 73-67 result at Texas Lutheran University on Saturday night.
However, thanks to Trinity University's 84-62 victory over Schreiner University, CC earned the third seed for the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship which begins Friday, Feb. 28, in Kerrville Texas.
The Tigers and Mountaineers finished the regular season with 10-8 conference records, but Colorado College owns the tie breaker by virtue of sweeping the two-game series.
CC trailed by 63-55 after Tara Molina sank a free throw with 6:14 remaining in the game, but Gertz completed a three-point with 4:26 to go to cap a 10-3 run that pulled the Tigers to within a point.
After TLU's Cami Davis scored on a layup six seconds later, Gertz hit two free throws to make the score 68-67. Those proved to be the final points of the night for the Tigers.
After a Morgan Rodriguez layup gave the Bulldogs a four-point lead with 2:26 to play, Colorado College missed is next five shots before Texas Lutheran iced the game by making two of four free throws during the final 20 seconds.
With her 11th game of the season with 20 or more points, Gertz upped her season total to 465, which ranks seventh on the program's single-season list.
Izzy Hensley finished with 13 points for the Tigers, her eighth game of the season in double digits and third time in the last five games she has produced 10 or more.
Anna Fanelli produced nine points, seven assists and three rebounds for CC. She currently has 132 assists, which ranks fourth on the program's single-season chart.
Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with 20 points and added eight rebounds.
Abby Hroch finished with 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
