SCAC Winter Update

SCAC Statement Related to Winter Sports in 2020

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Presidents Council agreed to meet in September and October to reassess the landscape of college athletics to see if adjustments to the sports schedules should be considered. Following up on an announcement made July 16, and in an effort to plan for spring semester scheduling for fall and winter sports, the league's Presidents Council also announced that all NCAA competition within the conference has been delayed until January.

For Colorado College, today's announcement affects the men's and women's swimming and diving and men's and women's basketball teams.

"We will continue to work hard to plan for the fall semester and assess providing opportunities to our student-athletes," CC Vice President and Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said. "This is disappointing but not unexpected news for our winter sport student-athletes. This reflects largely what is occurring nationwide within NCAA Athletics. These are challenging times and we know the student-athlete experience is paramount to our Tigers. Our coaches and department are here to support any way we can."

All SCAC fall sports competition, including men's soccer, volleyball, cross country and fall tennis, had already been pushed to the spring semester.

"Today's decision helps provide guidance to the league's Scheduling Task Force as we attempt to shift our fall and winter sports schedules into the spring semester," said SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "As we said on our call, everything is written in pencil and, although we need to plan for what we know today, we also need to remain nimble if circumstances change."
