Singer Sets Freshman Record at Augustana Invite

Freshman Elliot Singer led the Colorado College women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Augustana College Invite Saturday morning in Rock Island, Ill.

Singer finished seventh overall and second among freshmen in the 224-runner field. Her time of 22 minutes, 1.2 seconds over the 6K course is the fastest by a freshman in program history. Juniors Kendall Accetta (22:37.1) and Clare Quinn (22.39.6) followed in 27th and 31st place, respectively.

CC, the top unranked squad in the 23-team field, finished with 197 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the team title with 68 points, while Anastasia Tucker of Hope College won the race in 21:21.3.

Junior Dafna Williams (23:40.6) and senior Megan Koch (23:43.6) placed 73rd and 77th, respectively, to close out the scoring for CC. Senior Emily Dwyer also finished in the top 100, placing 95th with a time of 23:58.8.

"Our team really came through with some big performances today," head coach Alex Nichols said. "Elliot is having an amazing first season. She moved ahead of Allyssa Warling as the fastest first year in school history. Then the depth behind her led to a great team finish. The Tigers surprised a lot of teams to finish as the first unranked team."

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the SCAC Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
