Colorado College Splits Pair of Conference Matches At Schreiner

The Colorado College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of this weekend's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover matches, sweeping host Schreiner University before falling to No. 3 Trinity University in four sets.

Despite the setback, the 7th-ranked Tigers finished the day with a 22-4 overall record and a 7-3 mark in the SCAC.

Senior middle hitter Georgia Mullins put down a match-high 17 kills and had a hand in four blocked shots as CC opened the day with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-13 victory over the Mountaineers.

Sophomore outside hitter Isabella Lipacis and senior outside hitter Isabella Vasquez each recorded a double-double.

Lipacis finished with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Vasquez added 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs.

Vasquez became the 27th Tiger to record 700 or more career kills, finishing the match with 705.

Colorado College got off to fast start, bolting to a 9-3 lead in the opening set. Schreiner trimmed its deficit to 12-9, but the Tigers stretched their lead to seven points and went on to take the first set behind eight kills from Mullins.

Schreiner stayed close early in the second set, but CC built a 15-8 cushion and five kills from Lipacis allowed the Tigers to keep the Mountaineers at Bay.

Mullins and Lipacis combined for 11 kills in the third set as the Tigers closed out the match.

Kayla Lofland led Schreiner with 11 kills, while Brooke Byer recorded a match-high 16 digs.

Colorado College got off to a good start in its second match, but Trinity rallied to claim a 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 victory and stay undefeated in conference play.

Mullins posted her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and a career-high 19 digs to lead CC.

Lipacis recorded 11 kills and 14 digs for her second double-double of the day and 13th of the season.

Peyton Hummel led the Tigers with 22 kills, which marked the third time this season she recorded 20 or more.

Colorado College overcame an early two-point deficit to build a series of three-point leads. TU pulled even at 18-18, only to see CC answer with a 7-2 surge to close out the first set.

Trinity rebounded to take the second and third sets, and appeared to be cruising in the fourth before Colorado College mounted a comeback in an effort to extend the match.

After falling behind 15-7, CC clawed its way back to within 24-22 before TU ended the match on a kill from Annie Rose Leggett.

Leggett finished the match with 13 kills and 28 kills.

Colorado College returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT against No. 16 Southwestern University.
