Fry Leads Tigers to Three-Peat at SCAC Championship

The Colorado College men's cross country team dominated the field and ran away with its third consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title Saturday morning in San Antonio, Texas.

Led by senior Josh Fry, who defended his individual title and SCAC Runner of the Year status, the Tigers captured seven of the top eight individual spots and eight runners finished in the top 14 to earn all-conference honors.

Colorado College finished with 17 points, the best score ever by the Tigers since joining the SCAC in 2006. Trinity University was second with 61 points, followed by the University of St. Thomas with 73.

Fry, a senior from Bethesda, Md., cruised to the third-fastest time ever at the SCAC Championship, finishing in 25 minutes, 3.82 seconds. He is the first runner since CC's Nick Hall (2013-14) to win back-to-back conference titles.

"I am really happy to come away with the individual win in my last cross country conference championship meet," Fry said. "The fact that we were able to win the team title and three-peat was extra special as well."

Sophomore James Settles, last year's SCAC Newcomer of the Year, placed second with the sixth-fastest time ever at the league meet in 25:14.3. Senior Sam Rodriguez finished third with a time of 25:43.5.

Senior Paul Olsen (5th/26:14.5) and junior Max Saliman (6th/26.22.4) rounded out the official scoring for the Tigers, while sophomore Devlin Swanson (7th/26:23.9), and freshmen Brett Kitazono (8th/26:29.5) and Walt Jones (13th/26:43.6) also earned a spot on the all-SCAC team.

"The three-peat was something the team was shooting for all season long," head coach Alex Nichols said. "They worked harder than any team I have seen to make that goal a reality. This win is huge for the program and is great motivation before the regional championship."

The Tigers return to action at the NCAA Division III West Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Claremont, Calif.
