Tigers Post Pair of Sweeps to Begin Final Conference Weekend

The seventh-ranked Colorado College volleyball team served up a pair of sweeps to begin its final weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Texas Lutheran University.

The Tigers needed just 63 minutes to post a 25-9, 25-20, 25-7 victory over the University of Dallas in their morning match, then came back defeat Auston College 25-21, 21-15, 21-22 in the afternoon.

Senior outside hitter Isabella Vasquez put down nine kills to lead the CC attack against the Crusaders.

Senior middle hitter Georgia Mullins finished with eight kills, while sophomore hitters Keeley Kandziora and Isabella Lipacis added seven apiece.

Kandziora hit a match-high .462 for the Tigers on 13 kills with just one misfire.

Lipacis led the defensive effort with a match-high 11 digs, while sophomore setter Jenny Jenks added 10 digs to go along with 29 assists.

Colorado College raced to 9-3 leads in all three sets and was pushed only once in the match when UD cut its deficit to 14-12 in the second.

The Tigers answered with a 7-3 surge to open six-point lead and the Crusaders could not get closer than four points the rest of the way.

CC held Dallas to a -.019 team hitting percentage, which marked the second time this season an opponent hit negative against the Tigers.

In the second match, Mullins posted her fifth double-double in the last eight games to lead the Tigers past Austin College.

She put down a match-high 17 kills while hitting .455 on 33 swings with only two errors.

With 25 kills in the two matches, Mullins became the 13th player in program history to record 400 or more kills in a single season and currently ranks 10th on the list with 416.

Lipacis recorded her 15th double-double of the year with 13 kills and a match-high 17 digs.

The 'Roos had an opportunity to become just the fourth team to take the first set against Colorado College when they took a 19-17 lead, but Mullins had five of her 10 kills during a 7-2 run as the Tigers rallied to take a one-set lead.

CC opened a pair of five-point leads early in the second set, but Austin rallied to pull to within 13-12 on one of two misfires by Mullins, but after a timeout, Lipacis had a pair of kills to ignite a 4-0 run and the Tigers closed out the set with a 12-3 barrage.

Lipacis and Vasquez had five kills apiece as Colorado College overcame an early five-point deficit to post its 17th sweep of the season. The 'Roos had a chance to extend the match when they pulled even at 16-16 on a kill by Olivia Linton, but a 6-1 run gave the Tigers a five-point lead and they went on to finish the match.

CC closes out the regular-season on Sunday with a pair of matches at TLU. The Tigers face Centenary College at 9 a.m. MT, then play weekend host.
