The Colorado College women's basketball team erased an 11-point first-quarter deficit to build a six-point lead with eight minutes to play, however Southwestern University stunned the Tigers with a late three-point bucket to escape with a 71-68 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Friday night at Robertson Arena.

Taylor Carney scored the pivotal triple with 19 seconds remaining and the Pirates sealed the win by going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line during the final eight seconds.

Anna Fanelli scored on a layup with to extend CC's lead to 57-51 with 8:05 remaining in the game, the Tigers missed an opportunity to close out a win by going scoreless during the next four minutes.
Zoe Tomlinson broke the scoring drought to put her team back in front 59-57.

The Pirates took a 64-61 lead when Mia Paz sank a pair of free throws with 2:37 to go, only to see Colorado College answer with a pair of baskets from
Rosie Braley and a free throw from Fanelli to give the Tigers a 64-66 edge with 30 seconds remaining.

Southwestern scored more than half of its points from long distance, going 12-for-36 from behind the arc. CC connected on nine of 34 attempts from three-point range.

The Pirates led 28-17 at the end of the first quarter when they drained six three-pointers. Colorado College clamped down on Southwestern's outside attack during the next 20 minutes and allowed only two three-pointers while outscoring the Pirates 35-23.

Ellie Ward, who finished 4-for-10 from three-point range, led the Pirates with 19 points.

Zoe Tomlinson led the Tigers with a season-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Colorado College finishes its two-game trip to Texas on Saturday against Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. MT.
