Jack McRoskey scored a game-high 26 points in his first action of the season to lead the Colorado College men's basketball team to a 99-76 victory over the University of Dallas Friday afternoon at Reid Arena.
Â
McRoskey, who missed the team's first 11 games with an injury, finished 9-of-12 from the field and added three steals.
Scott Ruegg chipped in with 17 points and
Edgar Romero had 15 as the Tigers scored the most points in a game during the Jeff Connaroe era. Â
Â
Colorado College (3-9, 1-3 SCAC) was hot from the opening tip, shooting 63.3 percent (19-30) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-12) from three-point range in the first half.
Â
A pair of three-pointers by Romero put CC ahead, 27-16, midway through the first 20 minutes, then the Tigers used an 11-0 run in a span of 4:27, capped by a Ruegg 3-pointer, to take a commanding 40-21 lead with 5:27 remaining in the first half.
Â
McRoskey led an 8-0 run just before halftime with four of his 16 first-half points and the Tigers held a 59-35 advantage at intermission.
Â
After Dallas (3-9, 1-3) put together a 7-0 run early in the second half to cut CC's lead to 63-47, McRoskey hit a jumper and knocked down a couple of free throws to spark a 10-0 run and extend the lead back to 26 (73-47) with 13:09 left in the contest.
Â
The Crusaders, led by Jai Love's 14 points, closed the gap to 19 with just under five minutes remaining, but Romero scored seven points in a 9-0 streak, including a 3-pointer with 2:19 left to give the Tigers their biggest lead at 96-68.
Â
"This was a great team win for us. We had several guys play well, but I was most proud of our effort on defensive and on the glass," Connaroe said. "Dallas has a very good rebounding team and some very good veteran players, but we did a phenomenal job executing the scouting report our coaching staff put together. Offensively, it was great to have Jack back, he completes our team in so many ways."
Â
The Tigers outrebounded Dallas, 46-33, including a team-high seven from Devin Philio, followed by Ruegg and
Adrian Price with six apiece.
Charlie Rounaghi chipped in with six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Â
CC hosts Schriener University on Sunday, Jan. 2, at Reid Arena beginning at 1 p.m.
