Bella Beattie tied the program record of eight goals to lead the Colorado College women's lacrosse team to a 23-10 victory at Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon.
Beattie's eight markers matched Annie DeFrino's total set during a 20-18 victory over Meredith College on April 28 which was played at Southwestern's Varsity Fields.
The junior midfielder scored three goals during the first half when the Pirates stayed within striking distance, thanks to a 10-save effort by goaltender Sofia Valdespino.
Beattie's tally with 16 seconds remaining in the first half gave the Tigers an 11-8 lead after 30 minutes, and she struck for the first two goals after the break to help Colorado College open a seven-goal cushion on
Abigail Turner's marker 7:54 into the second half.
The CC defense did not allow the Pirates to score consecutive goals until midway through the second half when tallies by Deanna Hames and Raven Garcia trimmed Southwestern's deficit to 15-10 with 17:28 remaining in the game.
However, a little more than two minutes later Beattie stepped up again and ended the spurt with her seventh goal, which ignited an eight goal barrage to close out the game. Â
The Pirates took one-goal leads on three occasions during the opening 10 minutes, but Colorado College utilized goals from
Delia Freliech and
Bridget Hanley to take its first lead at 4-3.
After Southwestern tied the score 1:50 later, Beattie struck for back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead and they never trailed again.
Haley Heinecken scored a season-best four goals for CC.
Bella Scola produced career highs with three goals and four points, while
Delia Freliech also scored three goals in a game for the first time.
