The Colorado College volleyball team capped a perfect weekend by blitzing Moravian University 25-7, 25-12, 25-13 on Saturday night at Reid Arena.
The Tigers won all 12 sets en route to claiming the Spike It Up Classic championship and improved to 8-0 overall. So far this season, CC has won 24 of 25 sets and extended the program-record winning streak to 25 matches dating back to the start of the spring season. Â
Motivated to finish the weekend on a high note, the fourth-ranked Tigers posted a season-high .444 team hitting percentage and need just 59 minutes to defeat the Greyhounds.
Tournament MVP
Georgia Mullins recorded her third error-free match of the weekend against Moravian, pounding down a team-high 12 kills on 18 swings, good for a .667 hitting percentage. The senior middle hitter raised her season percentage to .568.
Junior opposite hitter
Meaghan Hohman, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, hit .438 with eight kills on 16 attacks with just one error.
Also earning named to the all-tournament team were sophomore setter
Jenny Jenks, senior outside hitter
Isabella Vasquez, and sophomore outside hitter
Isabella Lipacis.
In addition to their blistering offensive effort, the Tigers also produced a suffocating defensive performance which held the Greyhounds to a .011 team hitting percentage, which marked the fourth match in a row that CC's opponent hit less than .100.
Junior libero
Peyton Hummel led Colorado College with 12 digs, while Mullins and Hohman each had a hand in three blocked shots.
The Tigers began the day with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-10 victory over Belhaven University.
Lipacis, Mullins and Vasquez led the Tigers with eight kills apiece. Jenks dished out 26 assists while leading the Tigers to a .295 team hitting percentage.
CC blocked six shots and held Belhaven to a -.034 hitting percentage, the lowest for an opponent this season. Mullins had a hand in five blocks, while Vasquez was in on three. Vasquez also led the team with 10 digs.
The Tigers take to the road for the first time this season when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to face Randolph-Macon College, Ithaca College, Susquehanna University and No. 2 Johns Hopkins University.
