Trinity Holds off Colorado College In Battle of the Tigers

The Colorado College men's basketball team took Trinity University down to the wire, but was unable to capitalize on its final three possessions and watched as TU slipped out of Reid Arena with an 80-76 victory on Saturday afternoon.

CC trailed 72-64 after Trinity's Jacob Harvey scored on a layup with 5:25 remaining, however senior guards Jack McRoskey and Scott Cunningham scored five points apiece during a 12-4 surge that leveled the score at 76-76 on Cunningham's layup with 1:33 to play.

TU's A.J. Clark missed a jumper in the lane with 1:39 left to give Colorado College a chance to take the lead, but Charlie Rounaghi's three-point attempt wouldn't fall.

Enzo Sechi's layup put Trinity ahead with 33 seconds to play, and after Cunningham's three-pointer rattled out, Sechi closed out the game with pair of free throws with five seconds to go.

Scott Ruegg scored 13 of his team-high 17 points during the first half when CC jumped out to a 29-11 lead, but TU caught fire and utilized a 30-17 outburst to cut its deficit to five points after 20 minutes.

Harvey hit a pair of free throws 6:09 into the second half to give TU its first lead, but Colorado College demonstrated its composure by pulling even despite falling behind by eight points.

Trinity, which entered the game last in the conference with a .656 free-throw percentage, sank 25 of 30 attempts to the charity stripe for an average of 83.3 percent. CC finished 12-for-16 at the line.

Coach's Comments
"I was pleased with our effort and fight today," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "The guys are really playing hard. We had one of the best teams in our league and region on the ropes several times tonight. We just made too many costly mistakes down the stretch to win a big game like that. Every possession counts. That's on me I have to do a better job getting us prepared to play, and play with more discipline."

Colorado College Standouts
Edgar Romero finished with 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Adrian Price scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
