Torrid Second-Half Shooting Lifts Schreiner Past Tigers

Schreiner University shot almost 64 percent from the floor during the second half and pulled away for a 90-65 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Friday.

The Mountaineers connected on 11 of 23 shots from behind the arc, including a 7-for-11 effort during the final 20 minutes, and outscored CC 33-12 from long range.

Despite trailing by 16 points with a little less than seven minutes to play in the first half, the Tigers were within striking distance when Sam Kinney scored on a layup to cut his team's deficit to 43-36 three minutes into the second half.

On the next possession, however, Schreiner's Kamden Ross scored on a put-back to spark a 13-0 run that put the hosts in command.

After falling behind 65-41, a three-point play by Jack McRoskey trimmed the Colorado College deficit to 17, but that proved to be as close as the Tigers would get.

Scott Cunningham led CC with 14 points, reaching double-digits for the 11th time this season, and dished out a pair of assists.

McRoskey finished with 12 points and tied Will Nisbet for the team lead with five rebounds.

Ross led the Mountaineers with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Dylan Mackey also posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Schreiner posted a 47-33 advantage on the glass and outscored the Tigers 44-34 in the paint.
