Colorado College won several of the statistical battles, but was outscored 32-11 at the free-throw line and came out on the wrong end of an 85-76 result at Trinity University on Sunday afternoon.
Despite battling through foul trouble for most of the game, CC was within three points after
Edgar Romero drained a three-pointer with 3:35 remaining in the game.
Enzo Sechi, who along with Kaleb Jenkins led Trinity with 15 points, hit a pair of free throws on the next possession to spark a 13-6 surge to close out the game. With a little more than three minutes
Scott Cunningham finished with a game-high 16 points to lead five Colorado College players who scored double-digit points.
Romero and
Scott Ruegg were next with 11 points apiece.
TU led 27-18 after Jacob Millhouse dialed long distance with a little led than seven minutes remaining in the first half, but Cunningham scored eight points during a 17-7 outburst that gave CC a one-point halftime lead after Devin Philio hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
A pair of Jordan Lippman free throws gave Trinity a 58-47 cushion with 11:05 to play, however Romero drained a pair of shots from behind the arc to help Colorado College close to within three points after Cunningham sank a pair of free throws . Â
That proved to be as close as CC would get.
TU converted on 32 of 46 attempts from the charity stripe, while Colorado College finished 11-for 18.
Trinity posted a 40-33 advantage on the glass.
