Hailey Coleman scored on an inbounds play with 2.5 seconds remaining to lift Trinity University a 70-66 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.
Coleman's uncontested layup occurred after she came off a screen and was alone under the basket. TU sealed the victory when Ashlyn Milton sank a pair of free throws.
CC appeared to be headed toward its third consecutive regular-season victory against Trinity when the hosts took a 57-45 lead on
Healy Bledsoe's jumper 62 seconds into the fourth quarter.
TU cut its deficit to 59-57 when Ashlyn Milton drained a three-pointer with 6:24 to play, but Colorado College kept the lead until Maggie Robbins hit one of two free throws with 3:18 remaining.
Trinity built a 66-63 lead with 2:02 to go, however
Laura Strenk buried a three-pointer from the left corner to knot the score with 37 seconds remaining.
CC had a chance to take the final shot, but Milton caused a turnover to set up the final scoring opportunity.
Colorado College trailed 13-7 with a little less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter, but utilized a 27-10 outburst to build a 34-23 lead with 37 seconds to go in the first half. Â Â Â
Audrey Bayston led CC with 17 points.
Laura Strenk set season highs with 13 points and eight assists.
Maggie Shipley led TU with 22 points, while Milton finished with 19.
