Fanelli’s Record-Setting Effort Fuels CC’s Thrashing of Schreiner

Junior point guard Anna Fanelli set the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game record with 16 assists to lead Colorado College to a 79-53 victory over Schreiner University on Monday afternoon at Reid Arena.

In addition to eclipsing the previous standard of 15 that she shared with Hendrix College's Caroline West and Millsaps College's Talisha Moore, Fanelli climbed past a pair of Tiger greats into third place on the program's career chart.

With the first of seven third-quarter assists on a three-pointer by Audrey Bayston, Fanelli surpassed Casey Torbert's (2015-19) fourth-place total of 324. Almost five minutes later on Zoe Tomlinson's layup, she eclipsed Mary Voelbel's (1999-2003) third-place sum of 328.

Fanelli finished the game with a career-total of 335. All-American Melanie Auguste (2005-09) holds the school record with 607, while Courtney Tyus (2011-15) is second with 417.

Sophomore winger Audrey Bayston posted her second double-double of the season with game highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds. It marked the fifth time this season that Bayston scored 22 or more points in a game.

Bayston was 9-for-17 from the floor and 5-for-11 from behind the arc.

CC started quickly and built a 23-7 lead when Tedy Reed drained a three-pointer with 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter, but the Mountaineers utilized a 12-4 surge to cut the lead in half with a little less than seven minutes to go in the first half. However, the Tigers closed out the second quarter on a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 14 at the break.

Tomlinson scored eight of her 15 points in the third quarter when Colorado College outscored the Mountaineers, 27-9.

The Tigers finished with a dominating 66-31 advantage on the glass.

Defensively, CC held Schreiner's leading scorer, senior guard Josline Hernandez, to four points.

Colorado College won for the fourth time in its last five games.

Coach-s Comments
"Watching Anna make SCAC history tonight by setting the single-game assist record was truly special," head coach Katherine Menendez said. "Her dedication, work ethic, and leadership have transformed our program, and the most exciting part is that there is so much ahead. She makes people around her better and the sky is truly the limit for our program with Anna leading us forward.

"Zoë made a huge impact off the bench with her offensive presence and overall rebounding effort. She elevates our team and is a true X-factor in our success.

"Healy's five blocks generated serious momentum for us tonight – she played a complete game with rebounding, transition offense, and doing a great job on the defensive side of the ball.

"Watching Audrey shoot the ball at such a high clip is always exciting. Her offensive output combined with her effort on the glass helped us stay in control of the game."
