Laura Strenk scored a season-high 16 points, but a fourth-quarter surge propelled Trinity University to a 72-57 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Sunday afternoon.
Strenk shot 5-for-7 from the floor, including a 4-for-5 effort from behind the arc. The first-year point guard also grabbed six rebounds
Rosie Braley posted her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The junior forward connected on six of 13 field goal attempts and went 4-for-6 from the free-throw line to record double-digit points for the fourth game in a row.
Strenk's three-pointer with 5:10 remaining in the game cut the Colorado College deficit to 58-53, however the team managed just two more baskets and TU closed out the game with a 14-4 run.
Audrey Bayston scored 11 points during the first half that ended with the score deadlocked at 20-20.
CC took a 46-44 lead
Tedy Reed knocked down a jumper in the lane with 3:45 remaining in the third quarter, but Emily Nelson's fast-break three-pointer 35 seconds later put Trinity ahead to stay.
TU extended its cushion to 10 when Kelly Simmons scored on a layup with 6:48 remaining in the game, however Colorado College cut its deficit in half on a layup by Reed and Strenk's triple.
Anna Fanelli dished out five assists for CC to climb into third place on the program's single-season list with 144, surpassing her total of 140 set during the 2019-20 campaign.
Maggie Shipley led Trinity with 18 points, while Hailey Coleman added 17.
