Balanced Scoring, Free-Throw Shooting Fuel CC’s Victory Over Austin

Led by senior guard Scott Cunningham's team-high 21 points, the Colorado College men's basketball team utilized balanced scoring and it's best performance of the season at the free-throw line to record an 87-75 victory over Austin College on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Cunningham, who scored on seven of 13 shots from the field and all five of his free throws, reached the 20-point mark for the third time this season and the second time in three games.

Senior guard Jack McRoskey and freshman forward Adrian Price produced 15 points apiece, while freshman guard Edgar Romero finished with 11 to give the Tigers four players in double figures for the second game in a row.

Charlie Rounaghi dished out three assists and became the 15th player in program history to record 200 or more. The senior guard finished the game in 14th place with 202.

The Tigers shot a season-best 87 percent from the charity stripe, sinking 27 of 31 attempts. Colorado College made 13 out of 14 free throws during the final five minutes after the 'Roos trimmed their 17-point deficit to 70-62.
Austin College led 17-12 when Jaylyn Cleamons drained a three-pointer a little more than seven minutes into the game, but Cunningham scored the next five points to ignite a 21-5 surge that gave the Tigers an 11-point cushion with a little more than five minutes to play before halftime.

Chanston Goodman rattled in a six-foot jumper to get the 'Roos to within five points during the opening minute of the second half, however CC answered with a 16-4 surge to build a 17-point lead for the first time.

The Tigers scored 22 points off turnovers, compared to eight for Austin. CC also finished with 31 points off fast breaks.

Cleamons led the 'Roos with 21 points, shooting 9-for-11 from the floor.

The back-to-back Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victories this weekend are the first for Colorado College since it won three in a row in February 2020.

Coach's Comments
"We showed a lot of grit and toughness today, something we have been talking a lot about as a team," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "Austin is a good team that is well coached. They made a lot of adjustments throughout the game to put us in situations we haven't been in a lot. But our guys kept fighting and trusting the process. We had one of our best nights at the free-throw line and it really made a difference.

"We are starting to come together. This is a special group, everyone in that locker room is valuable and a part of our success. It's a fun group to coach."
