Mbereko Named KJ Branding NCHC Goaltender of the Week

Colorado College freshman Kaidan Mbereko was named the KJ Branding Goaltender of the Week by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference after splitting a pair of starts against 19th-ranked Minnesota Duluth last weekend at Ed Robson Arena.

Mbereko, from Aspen, Colo., collected a career-high 34 saves in Friday's 5-0 victory over the Bulldogs, earning CC's first shutout by a freshman since Alex Leclerc blanked Mercyhurst, 3-0, on Dec. 28, 2016. Ten of Mbereko's 34 saves came short-handed to help kill all five UMD power plays.

In the second game of his first career back-to-back starts, Mbereko had 32 saves, including 27 in the final two periods in a 3-1 loss to UMD.

For the weekend, he had a 1.02 goals-against average and .971 saves percentage.

The Tigers, 4-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the NCHC, travels to Oxford, Ohio, this weekend for a series against Miami University, Nov. 11-12.
