Fanelli Breaks School, SCAC Records for Assists in a Single Season

Anna Fanelli broke the Colorado College and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference records for assists in a single season on Friday night, dishing out 14 during a 70-54 victory at Centenary College.

Fanelli tied the previous mark of 192 set by former Tiger All-American Melanie Auguste on a three-pointer by Audrey Bayston with 5:21 remaining in the season quarter, then put her name atop the charts 1:27 later on Rosie Braley's layup with 3:38 to play before halftime.

The junior point guard finished the game with 200 assists and became just the third player in program history to record 400 or more in her career. In less than three full seasons, Fanelli has amassed 405 assists and trails only Auguste (2005-09), who dished out 607, and Courtney Tyus (2011-15), who had 417.

With at least three games to play, Fanelli needs only 12 more assists to climb into 10th place on the SCAC's career list. Earlier this season, she set the school and conference single-game records with 16 during the 79-53 victory over Schreiner University on Jan. 17, which was one of her nine games this season with double-digit assists.

Fanelli wasn't the only Tiger who came up big during the tougher than expected victory over the Ladies.

Freshman guard Laura Strenk led CC with 15 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the floor and going 3-for-8 from behind the arc.

First-year forward Zoe Tomlinson scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season.

Junior guard Tedy Reed produced her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

Centenary led 36-34 after Addy Tremie sank a pair of free throws with 2:13 into the second half, but Colorado College went on a 15-4 run to begin to create some separation.

The Tigers led 55-45 after Strenk scored on a layup with 54 seconds to play in the third quarter, then broke the game open with a 13-2 surge to open the fourth quarter.

With the victory, CC extended its winning streak to five games and climbed into third place in the conference standings with two regular-season games remaining.
