Dylan Brown and
Dylan Wells combined for seven goals to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory over Swarthmore College on Friday at Washburn Field, giving
Mike Horowitz his first victory as head coach of the Tigers.
Brown struck for three of his four goals during the half to help CC overcome a 2-0 deficit and build a 7-3 lead 3:03 into the second quarter.
After the Garnet answered with three goals of their own, including a pair from Carter Strauch,
Anders Erickson ignited a 5-0 run that began with his second goal with 1:24 remaining in the second quarter and carried through the first eight minutes of the second half.
Wells struck for a pair of markers as the Tigers opened a 12-6 cushion.
Just when the outcome looked to be secure, Swarthmore cut its deficit in half with goals from Straub, Von Mabbs and a man-up tally from Michael Hardiman.
Maguire stopped the Garnet comeback when he scored for the second time with 8:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, then
Sam DiMaio sealed the victory when he caused a turnover in Colorado College's defensive zone, picked up the ground ball and raced to the other end of the field, then used his long pole to score with a rocket into the top right corner. Â Â Â
Erickson finished with two goals and three assists, while
Jack Haims struck for a pair of markers and set up a third.
Winston Chodnicki won 16 off 22 faceoffs and picked up 10 ground balls the Tigers.
CC won 16 of 27 faceoffs and finished with a 45-28 advantage in total shots.
Both teams picked up 28 ground balls.
Ben Anastos made five of his nine saves during the third quarter when Colorado College extended its lead to six.
Shane Nachshen finished with 10 saves for the Garnet.
