The Colorado College women's tennis team closed out its 2022 spring break trip in Orlando, Fla., with a hard-fought 5-4 loss to Trinity College Wednesday morning at the USTA National Tennis Center.
 
Freshman Christina Heffron won both of her matches for the Tigers on Wednesday. She paired with Elizabeth Girian to beat Ella Baker and Kennedy White, 8-7(1), at the No. 3 doubles position, then downed Isabella Hartman in three sets, 6-2, 6-7(3), 1-0(5), at the No. 1 singles spot.
 
The Tigers trailed 2-1 after the three doubles matches, falling at the top two spots by scores of 8-2 and 8-4.
 
In addition to Heffron, Gigi Jensen dropped the first set to Baker at the No. 5 spot, but was leading 5-3 in the second set when Baker retired due to an injury.
 
Grace Dereemer captured the No. 6 singles match by defeating White, 6-0, 6-3, in her first singles match of the trip.
 
Jensen posted a perfect 5-0 singles record during the week, with three wins at No. 5 and two at No. 6. Heffron and Maddy Meister each went 3-2 in singles play.
 
"This team had tremendous results over the week," head coach Anthony Weber said. "Outside of our 2018 team, this was the most competitive we've been with nationally-ranked competition (Denison and Hope), and had a legitimate shot of beating Trinity today. Also, getting two "coin flip" wins against Pacific and Luther were big for the program.
 
"I am very proud of this team. Everyone holds each other accountable and take care of what they can control."
 
The Tigers (5-7) return to action on Saturday, April 2, by hosting Colorado Mesa University at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, beginning at 11 a.m.
