Red-Hot Goaltender Leads UChicago Past Colorado College

            
Colorado College held its own in the statistical battles but lost the war against No. 23 University of Chicago on Friday afternoon.

First-year goaltender Rachel Keefe turned in a massive performance with 18 saves to lead the Maroon to an 11-4 victory in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

UChicago scored the first five goals before Bella Scola put the Tigers on the board with 1:14 remaining in the first quarter.

CC dominated the second quarter, launching 14 shots compared to four for the Maroon, but Keefe stopped all 11 shots that were on target. To make matters worse, UChicago added to its lead when Zoe Torok scored for the second time midway through the frame.

Audrey Kaus extended the Maroon's cushion to 7-1 when she scored 2:38 into the second half, but Devon Ortman got that one back almost four minutes later.

The teams traded markers early in the fourth quarter with Healy Bledsoe scoring for the Tigers, but UChicago put the game away with three goals in less than three minutes to build a 10-3 lead with 3:44 remaining.

Olivia Dossett found the net for Colorado College with 2:49 to play, while Lally Johnson added a goal for the Maroon with 10 seconds to go.

UChicago finished with an 11-8 advantage in draw controls while each team picked up 22 ground balls.  

The Tigers finished with a 31-30 edge in total shots  

Lulu Hardy led the Maroon with three goals and an assist.

Colorado College slipped to 7-4.
The University of Chicago improved to 6-1.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College continues its run of eight consecutive road games on Friday, April 1, when the Tigers travel to Claremont, Calif., for a rematch against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
