Courtney Zell scored three goals for Colorado College, but after she tied the game late in the third quarter, No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges utilized a 6-1 run to pull away for a 14-9 victory on Friday night.
Fiona Lewis produced three goals and an assist during the final 17 minutes as the Sagehens survived their closest game of the season to remain undefeated.
Devon Ortman scored a pair of goals and matched her season high of three assists to lead the Tigers with five points.
Bella Scola gave the Tigers their only lead when she scored the first goal 2:28 into the game, but Pomona-Pitzer answered with four in a row to build a three-goal cushion with 7:01 remaining in the first quarter.
Goals from Zell,
Healy Bledsoe and Maggie O'Donell tied the game at 4-4 after 15 minutes, however the Sagehens scored three of the next four markers, two while down a player, to take a 7-5 halftime lead.
CC leveled the score after Zell and
Tobin Lonergan found the net early in the third quarter, and after Lewis scored midway through the frame, Zell scored again to knot the score at 8-8.
Lewis led the Sagehens with four goals and five points. Â Â
Pomona Pitzer posted a 30-12 advantage in ground balls and a 14-13 edge in draw controls.
The Sagehens launched 40 shots, compared to 25 for Colorado College.
Natalie Slade steered aside 17 shots, her sixth game this season with double-digit saves.
Emily Vomvas made 10 saves for Pomona-Pitzer.
