Junior midfielder
Olivia Dossett's unassisted goal with 11:22 remaining in the fourth quarter helped the Colorado College women's lacrosse team dodge a valiant comeback effort by RPI and post an 11-8 victory on a frigid Monday afternoon at Washburn Field.
Soon after the Engineers cut CC's four-goal lead to 9-8, Dossett dodged a RPI defender on the right side and whistled a shot inside the far post to give the Tigers a two-goal advantage and some much-needed momentum.
Less than two minutes later,
Bella Scola scored on a fast break off of a feed from
Courtney Zell to close out the scoring. Following a turnover,
Annie Tucker put the ball in play quickly, sending a long pass to Zell who hit Scola, who caught the ball in stride and scored from the edge of the crease.
Megan Shay scored twice in the first minute to help the Engineers build a 3-0 lead with 5:06 remaining in the first period, but
Peyton Murphy and
Tobin Lonergan each scored during the final 3:10 to trim RPI's cushion to one after 15 minutes.
Goals by Scola and Lonergan gave the Tigers their first lead with 6:30 to play before halftime, and after Lisa Boehmer tied the game at 4-4, Murphy's second goal gave CC a 5-4 halftime lead.
Emmeline Kelley and
Annie Tucker scored 1:07 apart to put the Tigers 7-4, and following a goal by Ella Graff, Dossett and
Caroline Shay each scored in a span 54 seconds to give Colorado College its largest lead at 9-5.
Shay scored for RPI with 19 seconds remaining in the third quarter, then Mia Banglmaier struck 39 seconds into the fourth. The last of Shay's four goals pulled the Engineers to with one with 12:58 remaining, but that proved to be their final goal of the game.
Natalie Slade made a pair of saves during the final 10 minutes, one on Boemer's free-position shot with 9:17 to go and the second on a Shay's final shot with 4:01 remaining.
Colorado College finished with a 35-23 advantage in total shots and a 26-19 edge in shots on goal.
The Tigers also won the battle for ground balls, 29-16, and picked up 10 of 16 draw controls.
Slade stopped 11 shots, picked up three ground balls and had a caused turnover.
