Tigers In Third Place After Swanson Wins 10K Title at SCAC Championships

Day One Results

Devlin Swanson's individual title in the 10,000-meter race helped the Colorado College men's track and field team sit in third place following the first day of the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.

The Tigers, who finished third at the 2021 Championship Meet with a program-record 106 points, have 58 after Saturday's competition and trail Trinity University and Texas Lutheran, who are tied with 104 points.

Swanson, a sophomore, won the 10K with a time of 33:22.55, nearly a full second faster than teammate Ben Gellman, who placed second in 34:18.95.

The Tigers captured three other runner-up results on Saturday.

Senior Josh Fry and junior Max Saliman, defending SCAC champions in the 800-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase races, respectively, finished second in each race on Saturday. Fry, who posted his best time of the season at 1:52.82, was edged by DeVante Jack of Centenary College by less than half a second.

Saliman, meanwhile, ran a 9:51.64 in the 3K steeplechase to capture second place, while teammate Andrew West also earned all-SCAC honors by placing third with a time of 9:56.86.

Senior Logan Henning finished second in the pole vault for the second straight year, recording a height of 14'7.25", which equaled the height of winner Tanner Lacy of Trinity University, but Lacy captured the title based on fewer misses.

"We had a lot of great performances today, which is what you strive to do at the championship meet," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "We have set ourselves up well to compete on day two."

Other scorers for CC (top 6) included seniors Paul Olsen (4th in 800) and Sam Rodriguez (5th in 800), junior Leighton Graham (6th in shot put) and junior Lucaiah Smith-Miodownik (6th in 10K).

In addition, the 4x100-meter relay team Kyle Sun, Holden Perry, Jacob Litton and Jacob Shichman placed fifth with a time of 44.04 seconds.

The Tigers wrap up the conference championship meet on Sunday, April 24.
