The Colorado College women's track and field team is in second place after posting three conference titles and three school records on the first day of competition at the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

The Tigers, who have 86 points, only trail Trinity University (103 points) after Saturday's action. CC is poised to surpass the program record of 130 points, set in 2017.

Freshman
Elliot Singer opened the meet by winning the 10K with a time of 39:57.95. Fellow freshman
Britt Helgaas finished third in 41:00.61 for the Tigers, who placed five runners in the top seven.

Junior
Kendall Accetta then won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a school-record time of 10:57.54, the second-fastest time ever at the SCAC Meet and seventh fastest in Division III this season. Fellow junior
Na'ama Nevo was third in 11:37.63 after placing fourth in the race a year ago.

Senior
Mabel Gardner followed suit by winning the pole vault with a school-record height of 10'6", the same height as Trinity's Bailey Dueitt, but Gardner claimed the title due to fewer misses. Â

Later in the day, the foursome of
Emma Fowkes,
Bea Pierrepont,
Kate Odom and
Shekinah Oloyede finished fourth in the 4x100-meter relay with a school-record time of 49.29 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 50.03, set in 2018.

"Our women broke three school records today," head coach
Katie Bretscher said. "To have those records broken at the championship meet makes it extra special."

Senior
Megan Koch finished runner-up in the 800 race for the third consecutive conference meet with a time of 2:18.20, while Oloyede placed second in the 200-meter dash in 25.70 seconds. Fowkes also earned all-SCAC honors with a third-place result in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.88.
