Tigers Post Best Finish in Program History at SCAC Championship

Final Results

The Colorado College women's track and field team posted its best team result ever at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a second-place finish Sunday in San Antonio, Texas.

The Tigers, who finished third at the previous six SCAC Championship Meets, finished with a program-record 176 points, surpassing the previous mark of 130 points in 2017. Trinity University won the team title with 192 points.

"The team really came together and had some incredible performances throughout the weekend," first-year head coach Katie Bretscher said. "It is exciting to see the program have the best finish in SCAC history."

The Tigers captured four individual titles on Sunday, including a pair who won for a second time this weekend.

Freshman Elliot Singer opened Sunday's session by running away with the 5,000-meter title after winning the 10K on Saturday. Singer won the 5K with a time of 18:06.35, more than 14 seconds faster than junior teammate and runner-up Clare Quinn. Junior Na'ama Nevo placed third and sophomore Jane Mallach was fifth.

Junior Kendall Accetta also won her second title of the meet on Sunday. Accetta, who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase race on Saturday, led five Tigers in the Top 10 and won the 1500 with a time of 4:46.62. Quinn finished second, while freshmen Sydney Rankin, Ashlyn Walker and Isabel Olson placed sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

The Tigers also produced a couple of first-time champions on Sunday. Junior Shekinah Oloyede became the first Colorado College runner, male or female, to win the conference 100-meter dash by smashing her own school-record with a time of 12.16 seconds. That is the fifth-fastest time ever at the SCAC Meet and tied for 27th in the country for Division III.

Meanwhile, sophomore April Kwan won the high jump with a leap of 5'1.75", while freshman Maya Mossanen placed second at 4'11.75". Mossanen also finished ninth in the javelin.

Senior Bea Pierrepont earned all-SCAC honors with a second-place result in the 400 with a time of 59 seconds.

Other scorers for the Tigers on Sunday include senior Marilyn Jackson (4th in the javelin), Emma Fowkes (6th in the 100 hurdles). The 4x400 relay consisting of Fowkes, Pierrepont, Mossanen and senior Megan Koch finished fourth with a time of 4:05.49.

Following the event, Koch was named the winner of the prestigious Elite 19 Award for women's track and field the third consecutive season. The SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. Additionally, the student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC honors in his/her sport for that particular season.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, May 6, at the Air Force Academy Twilight Open, for the first of several "Last Change" meets throughout the month of May leading up to the NCAA Division III Championships.
