The Colorado College volleyball team began its California road trip with a 3-0 defeat of UC Santa Cruz on Friday at West Field House on the campus of UC Santa Cruz.
The Tigers started the match with a resounding 25-16 win in the first set. CC jumped out to a quick lead and never relinquished it.
The second set was more evenly matched as the home team was not going down without a fight and the two sides traded points to begin the set. The Tigers pulled away midway through and continued to lead, enroute to a 25-17 win.
In the third set the teams were tied at 23-all before kills by
Carolyn Dormady and an attacking error on the Slugs handed CC the 25-23 victory.
"We played very well tonight," head coach
Sharon Dingman said. "We were assignment correct to our scouting report and then were responsive to adjustments. Santa Cruz is a good team so to get this win in three sets was important."
The Tigers outhit UC Santa Cruz .216 to .098.
Jenny Jenks recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 10 digs. Dormady was tops with 12 kills and
Meghan Gannon led with 14 digs.
CC will take on Christopher Newport (11:00 a.m. MT) and No. 22 Mary Washington (2:00 p.m. MT) tomorrow at UC Santa Cruz.
