Tigers Move to 2-0 With Win Over UT-Dallas

Freshman Isa Nelson scored a career-high 18 points and senior Audrey Bayston and junior Zoe Tomlinson each posted a double-double Sunday to lead the Colorado College women's basketball team to a 69-58 victory over UT-Dallas at Reid Arena.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 this season while UT-Dallas fell to 1-1.

The Comets jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but CC roared back to cut the lead to 10-9 on a Nelson layup with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter. After two free throws by freshman Juliana Garcia evened the game at 11, UT-Dallas outscored the Tigers 12-6 in the last three minutes of the quarter to take a 23-17 lead.

Colorado College held the Comets to 26 percent (4-15) shooting from the field and 0-6 from three-point range in the second quarter and the teams entered halftime tied at 34. Nelson led all scorers with 11 in the first 20 minutes.

The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and used a 7-0 run to close the third quarter with a 53-43 lead and Nelson hit a big three-pointer with 3:11 left in the game to put the Tigers ahead, 64-52.

Nelson was 7-of-10 from the field and hit all three of her shots from long range. Bayston had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Tomlinson collected her second straight double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

"This was a composed, gritty team win for us," head coach Katherine Auguste said. "The effort across the board was commendable, from Healy (Bledsoe) playing forty minutes with huge contributions in the way of assists and defense, to Audrey and Zoë both posting double-doubles, to Isa's steady-yet-attacking presence on both ends of the court.

Alex Bowman led UT-Dallas with 14 points, followed by Amanda Crowninshield with 11. Former Tiger Talia Cloud, who graduated from CC last May, returned to Reid Arena as a graduate transfer for UT-Dallas.

"UT-Dallas is a strong program and while we are happy with the outcome, we were perhaps most thrilled to welcome their starting forward and grad transfer, Talia Cloud, home to Colorado College," Auguste added. "It was a special day for our program and provided great momentum as we now travel to face nationally-ranked #2 NYU and #4 Tufts University next weekend."

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Nov. 19, against No. 2-ranked NYU in New York City, beginning at 2 p.m. (ET). CC will then play No. 4 Tufts on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
