Tigers Set Several School Records at Tostrud Classic

The Colorado College women's track and field team set numerous school records Saturday at the Tostrud Classic on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

The Tigers won the 10-team meet with 116 points, followed by St. Olaf (108.5) and St. Benedict (103).

Three of the six new records broke a previous record from 1995. Freshman Clara Lippert finished fourth and set a new standard in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:43.92, lowering the previous mark of 1:43.95 by Sascha Scott. Meanwhile, sophomore Isabel Olson placed second in the 1000 meters in 3:07.01, breaking the previous school record of 3:12.30 by Annabel Arnott.

In addition, CC's 4x200 meter relay team of Lippert, freshmen Emma Jones and Adele Davis and senior Shekinah Oloyede won in a time of 1:48.64, shattering the previous record of 2:02.70 by Arnott, Scott, Julie Cole and Nancy Eaton.

Meanwhile, freshman Alison Mueller-Hickler won the 5k in a school-record time of 18:35.70, more than 42 seconds faster than teammate Elliot Singer's previous mark set last season. Senior Clare Quinn won the 3K in 10:35.26, less than five seconds faster than the old record of 10:40.00, set by Gretchen Grindle in 1998, while sophomore Sydney Rankin finished second in the mile with a time of 5:13.25, breaking Grindle's previous school record of 5:19.60, also set in 1998.

The Tigers posted several other top-five results on Saturday. Oloyede finished second in the 60-meter dash (8.2 seconds), as did Dafna Williams in the 5K (18:46.33) and junior Na'ama Nevo in the 3K (10:36.63). Emma Fowkes and Britt Helgaas placed fourth in the 60 hurdles and 5K, respectively, and senior Tori Matson was fifth in the 600.

The foursome of Fowkes, Jones, Abby Goodfried and Lippert won the 4x400-meter relay in 4:14.23.

In addition to the six broken school records, the Tigers set an inaugural distance medley relay record of 13:11.90 by Olson, Matson, sophomore Ashlyn Walker and Rankin.

In the field events, April Kwan won the high jump with a leap of 4'11", fourth in the long jump (15'8.25") and sixth in the triple jump (31'2.75").
