Colorado College struck first and held the lead for the all but 90 seconds of its 17-8 victory over No. 13 SUNY Cortland on Monday at Washburn Field.
After giving up the first goal of the game to Cortland after two minutes of play,
Olivia Dossett responded off of a pass from
Gabby Torres with to start a 4-0 run for the Tigers.
Kendall Havill dominated for the Tigers with eight goals and an assists against the Red Dragons. Havill's eight goals ties her career high most goals in a single game.
"I was very happy with the team chemistry and hustle we had for the entire game." coach Stuey Stuart said. "Everyone played a part in the win. Havill had a record tying day with her eight goals which helped fuel the momentum and positive energy for the team."
At the other end of the field,
Natalie Slade made seven saves, and allowed just three goals in the second quarter, allowing the Tigers to go on a 5-0 run and lead Cortland 10-5 at the half.
Alongside Havill,
Caroline Shay picked up a trio of goals and
Devon Ortman scored once with three assists.
Colorado College finished with the 39-17 edge in shots, including a 22-15 advantage in shots on goal.
The Tigers won 16 draw controls to the Red Dragon's 13 and won the ground-ball battle 28-23.
