Colorado College heads to Georgetown, Texas, this weekend for the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
The league meet begins on Saturday, April 22, at 7 a.m. (MT), with the men's 10K, followed by the women's 10K. The 3,000-meter steeplechase will also take place on Saturday morning. The afternoon session includes the 200, 800, 400 hurdles, and 4x100 relay races.
 
Field events scheduled for Saturday include pole vault, long jump and hammer throw.
 
Several Tigers are ranked in the top three in the SCAC entering the weekend. On the men's side, junior James Settles has the best times in the 5K (14:23.05) and 10K (30:20.80). Both times are converted for altitude and the 24th and 29th fastest times in the country, respectively.
 
He is also third in the conference in the 1,500, trailing freshman teammate Rabbit Barnes, who has the second-fastest time in the 1,500 and leads the conference in the 800 with a time of 1:53.57.
 
Fellow freshman Josh Williams has the SCAC's best time in the 400 at 48.75 seconds, second-fastest in the 200 (21.70) and third in the 100 (10.81). His time in the 200 is the 29th fqasets in DIvision III. Senior Leighton Graham has the league's top throw in the discus at 148'10".
 
Meanwhile, junior Devlin Swanson holds the league's second-best times in the 5K and 10K, while junior Brett Kitazono and freshman Luc Santos are third in the 5K and 3K steeplechase, respectively.
 
"This is one of the most talented men's team that we have had in a long time," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "We have several conference contenders in James, Josh, Leighton and Rabbit. We emphasize and train for the conference meet all season long. This group is prepared to perform well this weekend."

For the CC women, which finished in a program-best second place last year, four different Tigers hold the top mark in the distance events. Senior Dafna Williams in the 10K (38:33.24), sophomores Elliot Singer (17:47.39) and Sydney Rankin (4:37.11) in the 5K and 1,500, and freshman Ella Fullerton in the 800 (2:18.92).
 
In fact, Colorado College owns the top three times in all four of those races, including the top six and eight of the top nine in the 5K, heading into the SCAC Championships.
 
Junior April Kwan and freshman Emma Jones are tied for the league lead in the high jump with a height of 5'0.25", followed by junior Emma Fowkes at 4'11".
 
Freshman Clara Lippert is in the top 10 in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump, along with junior Emma Fowkes in both hurdle races and Erin Capell in the shot put.
 
"The women's team had a historic performance, scoring the most points in school history, at last year's championship," Bretscher said. "We are hoping to build upon that for the 2023 championship. We have several key returners as well as first years who will be highly impactful this weekend. I'm excited to see what this group can do."
