Nine TIgers Named NSCA All-Americans

Nine Colorado College student-athletes were named recipients of the 2023 All-American Athlete Award by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Freshmen Grace Bean (women's lacrosse), Tori Matson (track and field), Eli Turovsky (men's lacrosse), sophomores Holden Perry (track and field), Vanessa Amsinger (women's basketball), Kaelin Enga (women's soccer), and juniors Jack Millar (ice hockey), Trey Crawford (men's basketball), and Keeley Kandziora (volleyball) were nominated by CC's director of strength and conditioning Cam Davidson because of their determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence.

"Since stepping on campus, Grace has been relentless in her pursuit of success on and off the field," assistant strength and conditioning coach Rachel Nicholson said. "In the weight room, she may be one of the most motivated and passionate athletes I've had the pleasure to work with at any level. Her work ethic, tenacity and enthusiasm have served as an inspiration to both me, the coaching staff, and her teammates since joining the team."

"Tori brings such positive energy and the right leadership that moves the Track & Field team in the right direction," assistant strength and conditioning coach Derek Savage said. "Tori is passionate about the sport and shows that she cares about her teammates so much."

"Eli encompasses all of the pillars that is the Jerry Carle Varsity weight room," Savage said. "Positivity, Accountability, being Caring, a good teammate and making it an enjoyable process for everyone involved. Eli has shown tremendous improvement through his efforts in the weight room."

"Holden demonstrates excellent leadership and rallies his team," Savage said. "It is even more impressive when you take into account that Holden is only a sophomore.  He brings such infectious, positive energy to strength and conditioning sessions, is always cheering on his teammates, and pushes them to succeed."

"The impact Vanessa has had on her team this season extends far outside the walls of the weight room," Nicholson said. "She is one of the most intrinsically motivated athletes I've had the opportunity to coach. Some athletes face adversity and view it as an obstacle – Vanessa faced adversity this past season and viewed it as an opportunity to grow. Her work ethic serves as a reminder to us all that doing the little things pays off down the road. She has played an integral role in building the culture of the weight room to be what it is today."

"I was very happy to nominate Kaelin for the NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American award this year," Davidson said. "Enga's positive attitude, work ethic, and consistent effort to get better every day makes her a joy to coach. One thing that sets her apart is that she is a tremendous teammate who cares about other's well-being and success as much as, if not more, than her own."

"Jack has been great to coach over these last two years," Davidson said. "He is someone that brings positive energy and does the right things the right way every single day. Regardless of the situation, he's someone I can count on to set a great example to others. It is these reasons that Jack is our recipient of the NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American award."

"Trey tore his ACL in October of 2021 and his season came to an end," Savage said. "For Trey to return for the 2022-2023 season he needed to work really hard to do so. Not only did Trey return for the season but he was also named as an All SCAC honorable mention. Hard work and dedication are second nature to Trey."

"Kandziora is one of the most dedicated athletes to walk into the weight room," Savage said. "She fully understands the impact that the weight room has on her sport and is driven to implement what she needs to improve at her sport."

The National Strength and Conditioning Association, located in Colorado Springs, is an international nonprofit professional association founded in 1978 and dedicated to advancing the strength and conditioning profession around the world.
