After very successful fall and winter athletic campaigns, Colorado College sits within the top 20 percent nationally in the latest 2022-23 Division III Learfield IMG Directors' Cup Standings.
Beginning in 1993, the Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Throughout the course of the year, points are awarded based on a school's finish in up to 18 sports - nine men and nine women - in NCAA Championships.
Colorado College is ranked No. 79, its highest winter ranking since 2014, with 135.5 points after one of the school's strongest fall and winter seasons since the Division III standings began in 1995. The Tigers, whose best result in the winter standings was 58th in 2005, have had one team and two individuals participate in NCAA National Championships so far this academic year.
Of the 438 schools competing under the NCAA Division III banner, 274 registered points in the Directors' Cup standings for the fall and winter seasons.
"Our progress and placement in the Division III conference and national standings speak to our team mentality as a department and our progress in broad based excellence," Colorado College Vice President and Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said. "It is exciting to see the progress across the board."
In the fall, the women's cross country team dominated the SCAC Championship Meet by capturing the top nine spots and posting a perfect score of 15 points, then finished 20th at the NCAA Division III Championships in Lansing, Mich., good for 54 points.
Meanwhile, James Settles of the men's cross country team, qualified as an individual for the National Meet and placed 60th, good for 32.5 points. Head coach Alex Nichols was named the SCAC Coach of the Year for both programs for the second consecutive season.
In the winter, Kate Brush earned first-team All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and second-team honors by placing ninth in the 200 butterfly.
In addition, Colorado College is in second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Presiden's Trophy standings following a trio of runner-up finishes at SCAC Championships during the winter seasons.
The Tigers have 270 points after the men's and women's swimming and diving teams and women's basketball squad finished second at their respective SCAC Championships. Trinity University leads the overall standings with 332.5 points.
CC is second in the women's race with 145 points, including the cross country title and second-place finish by the volleyball team in the fall.
The men are also second with 125 points after winning their fourth consecutive cross country title and tying for third in men's soccer.
Colorado College's best finish in the President's Cup was second during the shortened 2019-20 season.
