Colorado College defeated the Whittier College Poets, 14-6, on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.
The Tigers and the Poets traded goals to start the game with goals by Karsten Nyardy and
Dylan Brown to end the first quarter 2-2.Â
CC then scored four unanswered goals to extend the lead to 6-2 at halftime. The Tigers held Whittier to just 13 shots and eight shots on goal in the first half.Â
"That was our best performance on the defensive side of the ball all year," Coach
Mike Horowitz said. "We played physical and with pace and when you create those posessions, our offense is going to put the ball in the back of the net."
Thomas Power started the scoring for the Tigers in the second half.

Declan Maguire also connected for CC to extend the lead to 10-2.Â
The Tigers won the face off battle 14-10, and
Winston Chodnicki recorded his 400th career face off win against the Poets.Â
"I'm so proud of Winston." Horowitz said. "To win 400 career faceoffs takes a level of determination and discipline that's hard to come by."
CC out shot Whittier 50-23 and won the ground ball battle 44-22 and outcleared the Poets 22-15.
